The PADI Scuba Diver Course

The PADI Scuba Diver course is a subset of the Open Water Diver course. If you're short on time but still want to become a diver, the PADI Scuba Diver certification might be right for you. This course is an intermediate step toward earning an Open Water Diver certification.

The Fun Part

The PADI Scuba Diver certification allows you to dive under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional to a maximum depth of 12 meters (40 feet). You’ll gain diving knowledge, develop basic skills, and experience the thrill of the underwater world.

What You Will Learn

The PADI Scuba Diver course consists of three main parts:

Knowledge development to understand basic scuba principles (the first three of five sections in the Open Water Diver course).

Confined water dives to learn basic scuba skills (the first three of five sessions in the Open Water Diver course).

Open water dives to apply your skills and explore (two of four dives in the Open Water Diver course).

Diving Equipment Used

You will use all basic scuba diving gear, including a mask, snorkel, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device, and tank. Depending on the dive location, you may also use a wetsuit.

Study Materials You Need

The PADI Scuba Diver course materials cover everything you need to learn to dive safely. You’ll study essential concepts, watch video demonstrations, and apply the skills in water with your instructor.

Prerequisites

To enroll in the PADI Scuba Diver course, you must be at least 10 years old. No prior experience with scuba diving is required.

Your Next Adventure

Once certified as a PADI Scuba Diver, you can continue your training and become an Open Water Diver with additional instruction. Many Scuba Divers also take specialty courses to enhance their skills.
